Meet John Anderson

Sit down with John Anderson, member of the Plymouth Brethren Christian Church (PBCC), a father to four kids, who runs a small business that actively contributes to the economy and employs 56 staff.

Transcript:

Business has been kind to us, and my staff have been kind to me. I’ve got 56 staff in my business, we would probably have more non-brethren staff than we would have brethren staff and some of some of the non-brethren staff have been here for over 20 years.

One of the factors we’ve always put our growth down in our business to is that we pay people on time and they don’t have to come looking for us, they want to sell to us, that’s been a principle that’s governed us.

We deal with a lot of disabled people so there has to be compassion, there has to be care, has to be kindness, has to be understanding. We pay our taxes on time, every time, we pay our BAS’ and if you can find somebody in Australia that has a special deal with the tax department, we would really like to meet them!

I believe in government. In Australia we’re blessed with a wonderful democracy which other countries don’t experience the same as we do.

[speaking about technology] We often get asked this. Yes we do have a very good technology system in our business and we all have mobile phones. And do we ever have them – they’re everywhere and they ring all the time!

I’ve got a wife and we’ve been married 40 years. We’ve got four children, all married, and we have 11 grandchildren. We love each other’s company we love being together.

If I wanted to talk to someone that was non-brethren, come and ask me questions like you’re asking. My life’s an open book, I don’t mind what you ask me I’ll be very glad to answer any questions. We don’t hold any secrets, people are important, in business – people are business, so I’ve never shrouded or covered up my Christian beliefs, and I’ve found they’ve helped me rather than, they’ve never hindered me that’s for sure.
